UNSW is a safe place to live and study. As for any major urban centre, of course, crime exists and students should to take sensible precautions. UNSW Campus Security is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if it should be needed.
The following information has been taken from the UNSW Security site. More information can be found at http://www.facilities.unsw.edu.au/safety-security/security-services.
Personal safety on and around campus
A few simple precautions can considerably reduce your risk.
- It is best not to carry large sums of money. Try to pay large bills by Eftpos or credit card.
- If you carry a purse or handbag, hold it under your arm or in front of you. Never leave it unattended.
- If you’re using your wallet, put it in a jacket or front pocket instead of your bag, that way if your bag gets snatched your wallet is safe.
- If your bag or wallet is snatched, don’t forget to cancel your credit cards, Eftpos card and student or staff identification card. Also report it to UNSW Security and the NSW Police.
