Cultural Diversity

Jamaica NightOne of the best aspects of living in a community with over 300 other students is that you are able to meet people from all over the world. Altogether, people from every continent and over 35 nations call NCV home. Such cultural diversity makes for an interesting and enjoyable living environment. Each year NCV hosts “A Taste of Culture”, which is our annual cultural showcase. “A Taste of Culture” gives all residents the opportunity to show off their culture’s dance, music and food. Even those countries with only one or two residents are often represented. Residents have expanded this idea by creating entire social events devoted to just one culture or group of cultures. For example, recent cultural events have included Persian New Year, Africa Night, Sub-Continental Night, the NAIDOC Celebration and Jamaica Night. Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving are also celebrated each year. If you enjoy learning languages, then NCV is the perfect place to meet a native speaker. It’s not uncommon for an NCV resident to speak three, four or even five languages!
