What is New College Village?
New College Village is postgraduate community run by New College on the western campus of UNSW. It opened on Jan 5, 2009. It accommodates over 300 UNSW students, mostly postgraduates, in shared apartments and individual self-catered studios with air conditioning and ensuite. It has a strong team of academic tutors and pastoral care staff.
Can I live in the NCV?
YES, if you are an enrolled or applying student in a postgraduate, honours or final year course, or a staff member (visiting or permanent) of the University of New South Wales in 2009 you are eligible to apply for accommodation at New College Village. What are the selection criteria?
Each applicant is considered on their own merit. Broadly, your commitment to your studies (academic performance), and your willingness to participate in the community of NCV will be key criteria.
How long will it take to process my application?
Once we receive your application, personal reference, academic transcripts and application fee, you should be contacted within 2 weeks to organise an interview with the Dean.
When will I know if my application has been successful?
After your interview, the Dean will be in contact with you to let you know the outcome. This normally takes up to 2 weeks after the interview.
When can I move in?
What facilities will I have if I choose to live in the NCV:
- An ensuite? YES, all rooms have their own ensuite.
- Air conditioning? YES, all rooms are air-conditioned but are also designed to allow maximum natural ventilation if you wish.
- Access to a kitchen? YES, all rooms either have their own kitchenettes or share a full kitchen for 5 or 6 people.
- A laundry? YES, there is a full laundry in the building for shared use.
- Access to business facilities? Free access to a modern business centre is provided for all residents with low charges for printing, photocopying etc.
- IT access? YES. All rooms have access to high-speed internet access and phones in each room.
- A balcony? Many rooms have balconies at no extra cost.
What other services are provided?
- 1 sheet and 1 pillowslip will be changed each week.
- Bathrooms/kitchenette surfaces cleaned once a week (provided these are in a tidy state).

A Kettle, Toaster, Microwave mixing bowls, 1 set of cutlery and 1 set of crockery will be provided for residents. However a compulsory refundable $150 bond is payable on arrival for these items. The bond will be used for any damage or loss of these items.

Are there recreational facilities?
YES. The building will have cable TV, a games room, 13 common rooms, a rooftop terrace, Barbecue area, two external courtyards, and a private reading room. The University also has an outstanding gymnasium and swimming pool 200 metres away and special packages are available for residents. There is cable TV in one common room on every floor.
Will there be planned social activities?
YES. The building will have a social committee and other activities planned by staff such as formal functions, dinners, trips, guest lectures etc.
Will I receive academic support?
YES. New College has a long tradition of outstanding academic support for residents. We will have academic tutors available to help you and will provide access to specialist assistance when needed.
Is there pastoral care?
YES. Once again, New College is known for the quality of care that it gives to residents and the NCV will be no different. There will be live-in senior residents on every floor and a Dean living in the building.
What is the internet connection like?
New College Village will be offering different packages for internet usage through a separate Internet Service Provider. You can choose the one that is right for you! These are the indicative costs for internet at NCV.

What are the arrangements for the land that the New College Village is situated on?
The land the New College Postgraduate Village is being built on has been leased from the University of NSW by the New College Village for an initial 49 year term.
Who owns and operates the New College Village?
The New College Village will be totally controlled and operated by New College’s board, senior management and staff under a management agreement between the two related entities. Who owns and operates the parent company New College?
New College is a non-profit Australian public company limited by guarantee. It was established by the Anglican Church in 1969 to provide quality accommodation on campus to rural, regional and overseas students. The College is a charitable institution that is managed and operated independently by New College’s board and staff.
Will the NCV be linked to New College?
YES. The two residential communities will have an informal relationship. Our aim will be to develop a separate, but equally rich community as that in the ‘old’ New College. We will look for opportunities for meaningful links between the two communities. The NCV will develop its own rich community life with regular social, academic and cultural activities.
Will the NCV project have environmental initiatives and measures?
YES. The building has been designed to enhance environmental efficiency.
All storm water from the building is being retained and reused for toilets and gardens. The building will also incorporate clever design and energy-saving devices to reduce electricity and gas use, thus reducing greenhouse impacts.
What are the fees for living at NCV?
