There is an emphasis on postgraduate support led by the Master and a team of residential staff and research fellows. The aim is to build close relationships with key University schools and research centres.  There is also a program of academic seminars and tutorials. Continuing the New College tradition there are designated tutors and the integration of residential support within the building.

Academic tutors are appointed each year, within the NCV to assist residents with their studies. Tutors are typically in their final stages of a PhD. The type of assistance given will vary from discipline to discipline, and may be approached in a formal tutorial, seminar, or one-on-one tutoring. The composition of the team will also vary year to year, dependent upon the composition of the NCV community.
